Law makers passed the FY 2008 Federal Transportation Appropriations Bill which included funds approved for the Interurban Transit Partnership. Congressman Vernon Ehlers (R) secured a $500,000 earmark for ITP's downtown streetcar project. According to Rapid Growth Media, the funds could pay for studies to determine environmental impact and viability of extending the system.
